Mental Math Test – 60-Second Challenge
About Mental Math Test
The Mental Math Test is a one-minute arithmetic sprint you play in your browser. Questions appear one at a time – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division – and the difficulty steps up as you answer correctly.
The main 60-Second Sprint starts with small additions and subtractions and steps up after every four correct answers: bigger numbers, then multiplication, then division with whole-number answers. That makes it fair for beginners and still demanding for strong players. The Times Tables Test sticks to multiplication facts from 2 to 12, and Easy Math keeps to addition and subtraction within 20 for children.
The Daily Math Challenge is a sprint whose questions are generated from the date. Everyone who plays on the same day gets the same questions in the same order, so you can compare scores fairly with friends or classmates. Your first daily run counts as your official score; later runs are practice.
How to Play Mental Math Test
- Choose a mode: 60-Second Sprint, Times Tables, Easy or Daily.
- Press Start or Enter. The 60-second timer begins immediately.
- Type the answer with your keyboard or tap the on-screen keypad. A correct answer is accepted automatically.
- If your answer is wrong it flashes red and clears – try again or press Skip (S or Tab).
- When time is up, check your score, accuracy and speed, then copy your result to share.
Rules
- The test lasts exactly 60 seconds.
- All answers are whole numbers of zero or more – subtraction never goes negative and division always comes out exactly.
- An answer that has as many digits as the correct one but is wrong counts as a mistake.
- Skipping is allowed and has no penalty except the time it took.
Scoring
Your score is the number of correct answers. Accuracy is correct answers divided by correct plus wrong answers, and speed is the average number of seconds you spent on each correctly answered question.
In the Sprint and the Daily Challenge, questions get harder after every four correct answers, so a high score means you also reached the harder levels. Your best score per mode is kept in your browser.
Mental Math Test Tips & Tricks
- Add from the left: 47 + 38 is 70 + 15 = 85. Most fast calculators work from the biggest place value first.
- Subtract by counting up: for 82 − 57, go 57 → 60 → 82, that is 3 + 22 = 25.
- Split multiplications: 14 × 7 = 10 × 7 + 4 × 7 = 70 + 28 = 98.
- Turn division into multiplication: 96 ÷ 8 asks "8 times what is 96?"
- Do not hesitate on facts you are unsure of – skip and keep your rhythm.
- Short daily practice beats long sessions; a few runs a day builds speed quickly.
Mental Math Test FAQ
What is a good score on the mental math test?
It depends on the mode and your practice. Rather than comparing with others, track your own best and average over several runs – most people improve noticeably within a week of daily play.
Is it suitable for kids?
Yes. Easy Math uses addition and subtraction within 20, and the Times Tables Test is ideal for primary school multiplication practice.
Do I need to press Enter?
No. As soon as you type the correct answer it is accepted. Enter only checks an incomplete answer.
Are there negative numbers or decimals?
No. All answers are whole numbers of zero or more.
How does the daily math challenge work?
The questions are generated from today's date, so everyone gets the same sequence. A new challenge starts at midnight in your time zone.
Is the Mental Math Test free?
Yes, completely free with no sign-up. Ads around the game keep it free.
